If only were brave enough to see it.

Gun violence is a public health epidemic. One hundred Americans die by gun violence daily. It is so prevalent in our communities and we, as a country, are aware of how gun violence destroys. We see it with mass shootings, suicide, violent crime and at times accidental death.
Ramonas main objective is to be utilized as a tool or resource and play a significant role in communicating what gun violence looks and feels like through the lens of someone who has first hand knowledge of the pain it brings from both sides of the barrel.
“Returning Home” or reentering back into society should be a joyous moment awaiting the opportunities to begin a new life. The reality of it begins with disappointment and what appears your worth actually is to society. The truth is, you face hurdles of employment, housing, voting rights, and lack of a support system to name a few. So, what should a newly free person do? Ramona has created this toolkit for those returning home, including those who have been home and remain struggling with how to navigate “life”. The toolkit includes a mental, emotional and physical roadmap that regulates your expectations of reality and the obstacles that you will encounter. By applying perseverance, determination and a positive outlook on life, the toolkit will assist with positive outcomes and success.
Mental Health conditions is so prevalent in America. More so in communities who are afraid to call it exactly what it is, or fear being labeled mentally ill when given a diagnosis. Most of our underserved and marginalized communities are stacked with compounding layers of individual and generational trauma and we remain silent. Our silence decreases the hope which can turn into despair which can increase suicide attempts.
Mental health awareness, reaching out for help and having the knowledge of how to process living with a diagnosis can save lives. Managing our mental health is so important to surviving each day. Its important to speak aloud and not to allow fear to deter us from getting the help that we need. Mental health coincides with incarceration, gun violence, suicide and much more. Addressing mental health can help alleviate the trauma for present and future generations, maybe even saves lives.
